Cennan Salmon/Steelhead Rods from Shimano Provide Pulling Power Plus Sensitivity
IRVINE, Calif. 7/07 - ICAST Show Intro -- Providing salmon an steelhead anglers with pulling power plus sensitivity from its new rod design technology, Shimano offers its new Cennan rod series featuring C4S blank construction. The series includes nine casting rods and five spinning rods, designed for techniques including backbouncing, plugging, backtrolling, classic drifting and side drifting/boondogging.

According to Justin Poe, rod product manager for Shimano, the C4S blank construction increases rod hoop strength for maximum pulling power without inhibiting the sensitivity. “We start with a high modulus blank and then apply four graphite outer layers wrapped at 90 degrees,” Poe explains. “This is a next step in rod technology Shimano brings to anglers, following the positive reaction we’ve received from our TC4, TC4K and TC4F construction in a selection of our bass and saltwater rods.”

Features common to all the Cennan rods include Fuji Alconite Concept guides, Fuji reel seats (select casting models offer Fuji Exposed Blank reels seats for direct contact with the rod blank for added sensitivity), and a convenient hook keeper. Anglers will also “appreciate our Power Cork foregrips and reargrips where we treat the Grade A cork with a finish to block staining,” said Poe, “plus there’s less discoloration and breakdown of the cork.”

Cennan 8’ casting rods include CEC80M for 8- to 14- pound test, the CECX80M for 12- to 25-pound test, the CEC80 MH for 15- to 40-pound test, and the CEC80MH for 12- to 30-pound test. Two-piece Cennan rods include the 8’6” CEC86MH2 for 12- to 25-pound test, the 9’ CEC90ML2 for 6- to 12-pound test, the CEC90M2 for 8- to 15-pound, and the CEC90H2 for 10- to 30-pound test. At 10’6’, the CEC106MH2 is rated for 10- to 40-pound test. The CEC86MH2 and CEC90H2 feature Diamond Grip reargrips to make it easier to get them in and out of rod holders.

Cennan spinning rods - all two-piece models - include the 9’ CES90ML2 for 6- to 12-pound test, the CES90M2 and heavier CES90MH2 for 12- to 25-pound test; the 9’6” CES96ML2 for 4- to 8-pound test and the 10’ CES100ML2 for 6- to 12-pound.

For salmon and steelhead action both in the Pacific Northwest and tributaries of the Great Lakes, “we have the Cennan rod for the situations encountered and the techniques used for success,” Poe said. “We had help from many knowledgeable anglers to come up with the right lengths, actions and power, and challenged our development staff to come up with the right construction process - C4S - for durable, sensitive salmon and steelhead rods that provide plenty of pulling power.”
