Eliminates the chance of the drag lever backing off due to boat vibration, and the detents serve as a reference point as to how much the drag has been increased or reduced.

By recessing the reel foot further into the frame, the reel sits lower in the reel seat. This allows a much more controlled feel than traditional framed designs, when the reel is mounted on the rod. Not only does it increase the comfort level, but because of the lower profile in the reel seat, it makes the reel much more manoeuverable with casting styles such as underhand and roll casts.

The Rigid Support Drag virtually eliminates spool wobble, even at light drag settings. The result is an incredibly smooth drag whatever the setting.

Shimano is the only company to produce its own roller bearing. This piece of fine engineering holds the main shaft and provides an excellent anti-reverse performance. A Shimano roller bearing delivers a performance equivalent to 3 to 4 ball bearings.

Slack line around the line roller is the main cause of problems during the cast. A specially designed roller incorporates a protruding lower surface that helps prevent slack line snagging.

Highly corrosion resistant A-RB ball bearings with additional shielding for improved protection against sand, salt and dust ingress.

A specially designed cam (S-Cam) supports the P3 bail arm. This prevents backlash when you start retrieving and produces a more instant and direct response.

Specially designed guards are attached to the rotor and the body, which prevent the accumulation of water and also give added protection against accidental bumps and knocks.

On reels that incorporate this revolutionary feature, the oscillation system has been reduced to a fraction of the speed of previous models. Line is laid onto the spool in a slow, even manner and the bedding in of line is minimised. The result is that less energy is lost as the line peels off the spool, which can make even greater casting distance and accuracy a reality.

Cold forged from A7075 Super Duraluminium (aircraft grade alloy) this key component has incredible strength, but with a massive weight reduction.

All S-System spools are constructed using a cold-forged aluminium alloy. The cold forging process creates a lightweight spool with increased structural strength.
The addition of a spool ring, made from titanium-coated zirconia, which is ten times harder than stainless steel, gives the lip added resistance to abrasion and damage.

This oversized Drive Gear was designed using 3D CAD-CAM technology. This allows the surface of each tooth to be contoured exactly to the tooth shape of the pinion gear, resulting in more surface contact between these components. This in turn means increased smoothness, torque, efficiency and durability.

The Titanium coated SR Guard Fins are strategically placed on the rotor and several parts of the body to protect the reel from impact damage.

This handle screws directly into the drive gear resulting in zero play between the handle and gear. The 1000 size handle has a thin solid shank, whilst the larger sizes incorporate a hollow handle shank, which reduces weight whilst providing strength and durability. This one-piece bail has no gap for line to snag on during normal operation. Made of Stainless Steel, it reduces friction and allows the line quickly to locate itself into the line roller.

The magnesium alloy used to construct the SR reels is highly resistant to corrosion. A unique corrosion-resistant finish further protects the surface.

The Super Free bearing-supported pinion gear system (SF) was designed to eliminate friction on the spool shaft during cast. In standard baitcasting reels, when the clutch bar is pressed down, the pinion gear is freed and can actually drag on the spool shaft, creating friction and limiting the length of the cast. With SF, the pinion gear is supported by a ball bearing, and when the clutch is disengaged the pinion gear and spool shaft are kept in precise alignment. The result is almost zero friction on the spool shaft for true freespool.

Super Stopper is a oneway roller bearing that minimises back play in the rotor.

With the reel set in anti-reverse mode you’ll find zero free-play on the handle thanks to Super Stopper II. Unerringly positive every time, its practical benefits include micro incremental settings of quiver tips or specialist bite indicators, and faster hook setting.

Uses two pawls for increased reliability and durability along with hooksetting power.

This uses two drag disks and a floating drag plate to effectively double the drag surface which provides a wide range of drag settings and increased durability.

This shifting mechanism is designed so that gearing changes are quick and easy, even while fighting a fish. The low gear ratio used for high power retrieves is selected by pushing the button on the base of the handle. Return to the high-speed ratio by sliding the release button along the handle shank. By using two sets of gears, the drive and pinion gears are always engaged. There is no gear meshing during the shift.

An advanced way of laying line onto the spool during the retrieve. As the rotor turns, the spool moves forward quickly and then returns slowly.
This prevents the coils of line on the spool from bedding in with each other and improves casting performance.

VBS uses centrifugal force rather than magnets to aid in controlling the cast. When turned on, the
individual brake weights are forced outward at the beginning of the cast when backlashes most often
occur, causing friction that reduces the speed of the spool. Once the spool speed begins to slow, the
pressure with which the brake weights contact the raceway lessens, allowing the spool to continue
spinning. The result is a much more consistent spool speed that is easier to manage and takes
advantage of the reel's maximum casting distance. Settings range from zero weights turned on for true
freespool or up to 6 weights turned on for extremely windy conditions and maximum cast control.

Good quality line lay is the most important feature for precise, long and accurate casting. Shimano’s revolutionary ‘Varispeed’ System consists of two specially designed gears. One is oval and the other a remarkable square shape!
Only a special computer program developed by Shimano has been able to make these two shapes fit together perfectly – the result is a perfect, parallel line lay, giving improved fishing precision.

This is the first fully integrated butt system in which the carbon blank is shaped specifically to fit the minimalist handle and reel grip components.
Using washable laminated cork less than 1mm thick, our Vibralock feature is now an integral part of the single blank construction – an exposed conical section in front the reel, rather than buried beneath thick cork as before, to fully absorb all unwanted vibration.
